Forbo Flooring Systems have now teamed up with British design legend Tibor on an exciting new range for Flotex. Pioneering textile designer Tibor Reich – creator of Tibor - was a man ahead of his time. Although these striking patterns date from the 1950s, they could have been designed yesterday.
Background info:
This was a really great project to get my teeth into. Creating documentary-style promotional content is always more interesting and hopefully enganging than straight forward selling a product at face value. First off, the product is great which really helps! Secondly there is tons of history behind this which we really wanted to showcase. After a day of pre-production we nailed down teh key ingredients: An Interview with Tibor's grandson, old family photography of Tibor at work, B-Roll shot at the family home and finally B-Roll of the new flooring being laid.

Technical INFO:
In the end we had so much great content, the b-roll combined with the old photographs, that I only cut back to the interview angle twice in the whole film. It's a bit of a shame as it's a great shot. The Tibor family home is such a photogenic space that we were always spoiled when it came to shooting. Big open windows, high ceilings and tons of quirky and original furniture and antiques to shoot. We were blessed with some lovely summer light on some of the days and when that wasn't around we lit sparingly as and when approporate.
Grading wise, I kept this very simple. It was naturally very important to have accurate colours to represent the product, so in that sense there is a limitation as to how crazy you can get. Generally I just added contrast and saturation. With the interview itself I pushed it a little more towards a style, blueing the shadows, deeper contrast but again nothing too crazy.

Filming techniques:
Interview wise, a very simple 2 camera setup. Running sound directly into A Camera. B Camera a side profile shot. B-roll was either locked-off tripod shot or DJI Ronin-M for the hand held work.
